Bruce’s offensive outburst yields PACWEST athlete of the week nod

A pair of prolific offensive performances netted Nick Bruce the PACWEST men’s volleyball athlete of the week award.

The fifth-year left side with the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades had an outstanding weekend as his team split a pair of home games vs. the Camosun Chargers. On Friday, the Surrey, B.C. product racked up an astounding 27 kills along with 10 digs and two blocks, leading UFV back from a two-set deficit to force a fifth set. The Chargers, though, pulled out an 18-16 win in the fifth.

Saturday’s rematch also went the maximum five sets, but this time it was the Cascades prevailing by a 15-11 score in the fifth. Bruce was once again dynamic, posting 20 kills, two blocks, three aces and nine digs to help UFV improve to 2-4 on the season. All told, Bruce was directly responsible for 54 points (kills, aces and blocks) on the weekend.

The Cascades volleyball teams are on a bye week, and return to game action Nov. 10-11 at home vs. the Douglas Royals.
