The University of the Fraser Valley men’s basketball team defeated the Douglas Royals 90-75 on Tuesday evening in exhibition action at Semiahmoo Secondary in Surrey.
Andrew Morris scored a team-high 17 points for the Cascades, and UFV’s young players saw extensive playing time against the PACWEST opponent. Head coach Adam Friesen was pleased to see rookies like point guard Riley Braich and swingman Daniel Adediran make strides.
“Daniel and Riley had their best outings and really built some confidence,” Friesen said. “Douglas is a good team, and we played this game with more energy . . . which was a good sign. I think we’re learning how to compete with one another, with having so many new faces, and I thought we played at a good pace. A lot of good signs.”
The final preseason tune-up for the UFV men’s basketball team comes on Sunday, Oct. 30, when they host the Laurier Golden Hawks at 3 p.m. at the Envision Athletic Centre.
The Cascades basketball teams open the Canada West regular season the following weekend, Nov. 4-5, against the Saskatchewan Huskies.
