Tristan Corneil of the University of the Fraser Valley women’s soccer team has been named the Canada West female third star of the week.
Corneil, a fifth-year kinesiology student from Cloverdale, B.C., turned in a tremendous performance in the Cascades’ 2-1 loss to the Trinity Western Spartans on Friday. The 2015 Canada West first team all-star was a defensive and offensive catalyst from her centre back spot, winning numerous tackles and earning UFV’s player of the game nod.
The conference’s first and second stars, respectively, were a pair of goalkeepers: UVic’s Meaghan Storie and UBC’s Marlee Maracle. Both posted shutouts in a head-to-head match-up on Saturday.
The Cascades (0-1-0) are back in action on the road this weekend, facing the Regina Cougars on Saturday and the Saskatchewan Huskies on Sunday. The Regina game will be webcast at canadawest.tv.
