Dayton Pagliericci of the University of the Fraser Valley men’s volleyball team has been named the PacWest men’s volleyball athlete of the week.
The second-year middle from Chilliwack, B.C. had a tremendous weekend as the Cascades wrapped up their first-semester schedule with a pair of victories over the Capilano Blues.
On Friday, Pagliericci posted five kills, two blocks, two aces and two digs in a thrilling five-set marathon, capped by an 18-16 Cascades win in the fifth set. He was an attacking menace in Saturday’s rematch, pounding an eye-popping 17 kills along with four blocks, two aces and six digs as UFV won in four sets.
Pagliericci, who ranks second in the PacWest in blocks (0.90 per set), was also named one of five Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) male athletes of the week.
The UFV men’s volleyball team is 7-5 and ranked No. 15 in the CCAA heading into the Christmas break. They return to action the weekend of Jan. 8-9, when they host the Camosun Chargers at the Envision Athletic Centre.
