A strong start to the PacWest regular season has led to national recognition for the University of the Fraser Valley men’s volleyball team.
The Cascades are No. 12 in the first Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) national rankings of 2015-16, released on Tuesday.
Head coach Kyle Donen’s charges have opened the PacWest regular season with four wins in six games. Their only two losses came vs. the CCAA No. 1-ranked Douglas Royals, and one of those was a five-setter.
Three PacWest teams are mentioned in the national rankings – UFV, Douglas, and the No. 4 Camosun Chargers, who happen to be the Cascades’ next opponent. The UFV volleyball teams are on a bye week, and return to action with a road trip to Victoria Nov. 13-14 for games against the Camosun.
“It’s flattering to see,” Cascades head coach Kyle Donen said, reflecting on his team’s spot in the national rankings. “It’s still early in the season for us, but at the same time, it’s nice to see us getting some recognition. We get an early shot at the No. 4 team next weekend, and it’s an opportunity to show we can move up. It’s extra motivation for us, and gives us something to strive for.”
