A trio of University of the Fraser Valley varsity teams have garnered mentions in the latest batch of national rankings, released Tuesday.
• In the first CCAA golf top-10 polls of the season, the Cascades men hold down the No. 3 spot, while the women open at No. 4 in the nation.
Head coach Chris Bertram’s charges opened the PacWest regular season last weekend at the UBC Okanagan tournament in Kelowna. The men took third place while the women were second.
A strong start in the national rankings bodes well for the Cascades as they look ahead to hosting the PING CCAA Golf National Championships, Oct. 13-16 at Chilliwack Golf Club.
• For the second consecutive week, the Cascades women’s soccer team sits No. 7 in the CIS national rankings.
Rob Giesbrecht’s squad began its Canada West conference schedule last weekend at home, posting a scoreless draw with the UVic Vikes on Friday and a 2-1 win over the CIS No. 9-ranked UBC Thunderbirds on Saturday.
Laval Rouge et Or, Ottawa Gee-Gees and Western Mustangs comprise the top three, respectively.
