All three sets were close (25-21, 25-23, 25-20), but for the second straight day, the Avalanche had just a bit more finish than the Cascades.

“We just did not perform,” UFV head coach Dennis Bokenfohr said.

“Give credit to COTR – they performed well this weekend. But we have high expectations of ourselves, and we didn’t meet those expectations.”

The Avalanche have been red-hot of late, posting a 7-1 record since the calendar flipped to 2015. Saturday’s win allowed them to move past the Cascades to grab sole possession of fourth place in the PacWest conference with an 11-9 record. UFV, ranked No. 9 in the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) national poll, fell to 10-10.

The Cascades volleyball teams are on the road again next weekend, facing the Capilano Blues in a Friday-Saturday set in North Vancouver.

“We’ve got two weeks left until provincials, so we have to individually improve,” Bokenfohr said.
