The University of the Fraser Valley women’s volleyball team is ranked No. 6 in the first Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) national poll of the season.
The Cascades have compiled a 5-1 record over the first three weekends of PacWest regular season play, which leaves them second in the conference, trailing only the Camosun Chargers (6-0). Camosun is No. 2 in the CCAA rankings.
“The product of having success in the PacWest means you’ll be ranked higher than if you were in other leagues, because the PacWest has done well at nationals in the past,” Cascades head coach Dennis Bokenfohr noted.
“At this point, it’s just flattering. It’s nice to know that people think of us that way.”

Cascades host Blues this weekend
The UFV volleyball teams are at home this weekend to take on the Capilano Blues from North Vancouver.
Games run Friday and Saturday at the Envision Athletic Centre (women 6 p.m., men 8 p.m. both nights).
On the women’s side, the Cascades and the Blues are among the top teams in the PacWest – Capilano, at 3-1, currently sits third in the conference and could overtake UFV with a weekend sweep.
The UFV women have been led this season by the likes of Michelle Zygmunt (second in the PacWest in total offence with 4.21 points per set, second in aces, fifth in kills and digs), Kelly Robertson (fourth in kills, sixth in total offence) and Emily Carroll (fourth in blocks).
On the men’s side, the Blues currently sit last in the PacWest at 0-4. The Cascades, tied for third at 3-3, will do their best to prevent them from making up any ground.
Kurtis Stromdahl paces the Cascades with 2.62 kills per set, good for 10th in the PacWest, while Robert Koenig is fourth in aces at 0.57. Joel Kleingeltink is 11th in the conference in total offence, with 3.20 points per set.
