Cascades to face Detroit Titans in exhibition opener

Abbotsford – The UFV Cascades men’s basketball team will open their preseason this Sunday, August 17, against the University of Detroit Mercy Titans at the Envision Athletic Centre (EAC) in Abbotsford. The game will begin at 3 pm, and admission is free for all fans.

The Cascades, who finished last season fourth in the Canada West (and ranked top ten nationally), are an even mix of veteran talent and new faces. They are led on the court by returning stars Kevon Parchment and Jasper Moedt, who combined for an average of 31.6 points per game last season. Supporting this dynamic duo are American transfers Dominique Brooks and Nate Brown, as well as former redshirts Vijay Dhillon and Nav Bains. Cascades coach Adam Friesen is entering his third year at the helm of the program.

The Detroit Titans compete in the Horizon League of the NCAA (Div 1). They are currently in the midst of a nine-day trip to British Columbia during which they will play four games against Canadian opponents (Quest, UBC, UFV, TWU). In 2012 the Titans qualified for the NCAA “March Madness” tournament, losing to the eventual runners-up, the Kansas Jayhawks, in the first round.

Sunday’s game will be the first chance to see the 2014-2015 Cascades in uniform, and the only chance to see the team in action before their next exhibition against Kwantlen on October 3. Don’t miss it!
