Cascades Men’s Basketball Ride Magic First Quarter to Weekend Sweep

The UFV Cascades men’s basketball team (9-5) wrung a second road win out of the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack (7-7) tonight with a 76-69 victory.  UFV is now in sole possession of second place in the Pacific division of the Canada West, a full two wins ahead of the three-way tie for third between TRU, Mount Royal, and TWU.

The Cascades could ‘shoot no wrong’ in the first quarter of tonight’s game, going four for seven from behind the arc on their way to a 24-4 lead. The WolfPack, by comparison, shot close to ten percent through the first quarter and spent the rest of the game playing from behind. While the Cascades would lose or tie every subsequent quarter, that early 20 point lead was enough to win the day.

Kevon Parchment posted impressive numbers once again, scoring 25 points, shooting five for six from three-land, and grabbing 10 rebounds. His partners in crime were Jasper Moedt, 13 points and 14 rebounds, as well as Klaus Figueredo with 18 points. TRU’s Ta’Quan Zimmerman was crucial to his team’s recovery from the early deficit, scoring 18 of his 20 points in the second quarter. Cascades Kadeem Willis and Kevon Parchment both recorded dunks, while one-man WolfPack Tallon Milne threw down twice.

“Great weekend for our team,” said Cascades head coach Adam Friesen. “Lots of great individual performances but the team-first attitude of everyone is really what won us these games … [TRU] has been a very tough place for us to play in the past.  For us to get two wins  this weekend is very fortunate. The boys played hard and well.”

The Cascades will take on the UBCO Heat next weekend at the Envision Athletic Centre in Abbotsford. Watch the game online at canadawest.tv
