A Big Win for Cascades Men’s Basketball Over the Winnipeg Wesmen

006Winnipeg – Tonight the UFV Cascades men’s basketball team (6-5) extended their winning streak to three (the longest of the season) with a 69-54 road win over the Winnipeg Wesmen (6-5). UFV took the lead 4-3 in the fourth minute of the first quarter and never looked back as the Cascades forced Winnipeg to play catch-up all night long.

The Cascades shot 6-10 from beyond the arc in the first half, and an astounding 9-14 on the night. Manjodh Dulay went 4-5 from three land, and is now an impressive 24-62 from that range on the season. Still, Kevon Parchment once again carried the day with a 21 point, eight rebound, and 6 steal performance. He was aided in his endeavors by Kadeem Willis, who posted a double-double (13 points and 14 rebounds).

The Wesmen simply couldn’t match the Cascades sharpshooting as they finished with a mediocre .316 field goal percentage, and a stark 4-25 record beyond the arc. Winnipeg’s star forward Steven Wesley gathered 20 points and 10 rebounds in a remarkable effort, but failed to spark his team into a comeback. The Wesmen have now lost five consecutive conference games.

“We are really happy with how we started the new year,” says Cascades coach Adam Friesen. “I think we are just really coming together as a group and our motivation level and our comfort level are improving. The guys just really wanted to compete for one another. When you do that you tend to improve.”

The Cascades will play again tomorrow (Saturday) against the Manitoba Bisons at 5 pm PST. The game will be streamed live at canadawest.tv
