The 2013-14 PING CCAA Golf Championship began in cool, calm conditions at the Royal Quebec Golf Course, Quebec City, with Wednesday’s opening round. Chair of the Championship, Christian Brosseau commented on the start of the tournament saying “Great first day of competition, Mother Nature has cooperated thus far and the field is settling. We look forward to another great day tomorrow.”
The competition is fiercer than ever, as Fraser Valley is looking strong on both the women’s side with a combined score of 72 and the men’s side with a combined score of 283 at the end of day one. Humber on the men’s side is tied with Fraser Valley at 283, after round one of the competition.
As for the Women’s individuals, Valerie Tanguay (Champlain St. Lawrence) is leading the charge with a low score of 67. She is being tailed by Jen Woods (Fraser Valley) with a round of 72 and Heather MacKenzie (St. Clair College) with a score of 76.
The Men’s individuals are being led by Colton Kalkanis (Georgian College) and Alex Dumais (Humber College), who both shot a first round low score of 68. They are being followed closely by Darren Whitehouse (Fraser Valley) with a first round score of 69.
As far as the women’s team standings go, Fraser Valley is in the lead with a score of 153, St. Clair College and Humber College are tied for second at 159.
The men’s team standings are spear-headed by Fraser Valley (PACWEST) and Humber College (OCAA), tied at 283. The best Quebec team, Champlain St. Lawrence, follows closely in third place with a score of 293.
