Abbotsford, BC …..The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades women’s basketball program is ranked 4th in the inaugural CIS top ten rankings. The rankings are conducted by the CIS and voted on by the head coaches throughout the country. UFV finished 3rd in the rankings last year (February 26th) and tied for 7th overall, with Carleton University, after the 2013 CIS national championship tournament in Regina, Saskatchewan last March.
UFV won the Pacific Division of Canada West last March with an 18-4 regular season record, both program firsts. UFV would earn the team’s first ever conference medal, a Bronze Medal, defeating the University of Alberta Pandas, 68-57, in Calgary to earn the program’s first berth in the CIS elite “Final 8” tournament. UFV lost to Saint Mary’s and McGill at the CIS championship event.
The Cascades open defense of their Pacific Division title on Friday, November 1st as they host the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns at the Envision Athletic Centre, at 6pm.
