Burnaby Lake, BC…..The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades men’s rowing team participate in the 2013 Burnaby Lake small boat invitational, this past weekend.
The race covers a 4.2km distance with a 189 degree turn halfway through. “This race fit in as a great part of our training for the next few weeks of racing, as our men had a look at where they sit as they prepare for the Western Canadian Universities, two weeks from now,” commented UFV head coach Liz Chisholm.
Veteran rowers, Scott Micona (Langley, BC) and Hans-Christian Mross (Fort Langley, BC) raced against their teammates Adam Postmus (Fruitvale, BC) and Ryan Tucker (Chilliwack, BC) and a team from Simon Fraser University. Micona and Mross had a great race, making the turn faultlessly, which gave them a great lead into the 2km to the finish line, to place first in the Open Men’s pair event. UFV’s second boat had a terrific start to the race; but the difficulty of the turn and lack of experience set them apart from the rest of the field. They beat SFU, and came second to UFV’s more experienced pair.
Caleb Davisson (Abbotsford, BC) rowed the 1x in a very deep field of 30 rowers. Caleb placed 14th overall. Emmett Campbell (Mission, BC) and Sunny Dongwook Kim (Korea) beat SFU in the Men’s 2x. (double), despite some difficulties with the turn.
Up Next for the rowing team is Saturday, October 12th, the crews will be racing at UBC’s Fraser Fours.
