Abbotsford, BC…..The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades men’s soccer midfielder Connor MacMillan and women’s golfer Dani Shap are the UFV Cascades/Abbotsford Heat Athletes of the week, for the week ending on Sunday, September 8th, 2013.

MacMillan, second year midfielder from Chilliwack, BC led UFV to a victory over the CIS number one ranked UBC Thunderbirds on Sunday, 1-0, in Vancouver.  The Kinesiology major scored the match’s lone goal in the 87th minute and was named “player of the Game” for UFV as he recorded more than 15 tackles and kept the very talented UBC midfield in tack all afternoon. 

“I am very proud of Connor he played very well on Sunday, his energy helped spark us to the victory.” Commented UFV head coach Alan Errington.

Hometown:  Chilliwack, BC

Shap, second year golfer from Mission, BC led UFV to first place in the program’s first ever PACWEST golf tournament with a two-day score of 161.  Tied with her UFV teammate Jen Woods, Kelowna, BC on top of the women’s leader board.  The Cascades are currently in first place with a team score of 322, 19 strokes ahead of second place VIU Mariners.

 Live on the Drive Tonight

 The Drive

Starting tonight the UFV Cascades/Abbotsford Heat Athletes of the Week will be “live on the drive” each week on Marc Fitzgerald’s Drive 89.5FM sports radio show.  Between 6 and 6:30pm each Monday Marc will interview the two top Cascades from the previous week.  The radio show is taking place at Frankie’s Italian Kitchen & Bar in Chilliwack, BC and you can listen live on www.895thedrive.com
