Abbotsford, BC…..The University of the Fraser Valley’s athletic department turns 30 years old this coming September, 2013.  The gym doors opened to the students of Fraser Valley College  in the fall of 1983 with the forming of the men’s and women’s basketball programs.  Over the 30 years the university started nine intercollegiate programs and quickly became a force to be reckoned with in the BCCAA (now the PACWEST).  UFV gain entrance into the Canadian Interuniversity Sport in men’s and women’s basketball and soccer in the Fall of 2006.

The Cascades are pleased to unveil a 30th anniversary logo, designed by Marie Tary, MARCOM, which the department will portray during the upcoming school year.  UFV athletics will hold ceremonies all year at interuniversity games and matches to celebrate the alumnus that have paved the way for today’s 140 student-athletes and 30 coaches.  During the school year, the Cascades will honor each program with its history which will include the program’s head coaches, all-stars and team success stories.

All are welcome to join the Cascades in this historic year.  UFV’s current programs all have aspirations of qualifying for their respective conference post season championship tournaments and three programs men’s and women’s basketball and women’s volleyball were nationally ranked for most if not the entire regular season in 2012-13.  Below are the year’s the programs were established, the list of Athletic Directors and the list of conference and national medals earn in the first 29 years.

This is a great event for students from The University of the Fraser Valley; they get to have tremendous time to have the said event. It will be a once a year affair to honor the history which includes the success of the teams. This is the perfect time to perform the specific games/tournament for its 30th.
