2013 CCAA National Champion UFV Cascades Women’s Volleyball team to be honored by Abbotsford Heat on Saturday Night

Abbotsford, BC….The Abbotsford Heat (American Hockey League affiliate of the Calgary Flames) will honor the 2013 CCAA national women’s volleyball champion University of the Fraser Valley Cascades on Saturday night, March 23rd at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre (AESC).  Game time is set for 7pm PST against the Rockford Ice Dogs (Chicago Black Hawks).

The Cascades women’s volleyball team defeated the host Lakeland College Rustlers (ACAC) 3-0, to capture the 2013 CCAA National Championship, on Saturday, March 9th.  The title is the school’s first in the program’s history.  UFV started playing intercollegiate volleyball in 2004. The Cascades were led by Kayla Bruce, Surrey, BC, who was selected as the 2013 CCAA women’s volleyball “Player of the Year” and Jenna Evans, Abbotsford, BC who was selected as the 2013 CCAA national championship tournament most valuable player.    The team finished the 2012-13 season with an amazing 27-2 record winning the PACWEST Championship and CCAA Championship.

“I am very happy for the team, they have been great all year.  The team works very hard and has been a delight to coach, they should be very proud of their accomplishments this year,” said a very happy head coach, Dennis Bokenfohr.
