UFV Cascades Women’s Volleyball team defeat Capilano U Blues, 3-1, earn berth in CCAA National Championship tournament

Cranbrook, BC….The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades women’s volleyball team defeated the Capilano University Blues, 3-1, to earn a berth in the 2013 CCAA national championship tournament, in Lloydminster, Alberta the weekend of March 7-9.  The Cascades, ranked number one in the CCAA top ten poll, will face the CBC Bearcats, who defeated the VIU Mariners, 3-2 today, in the 2013 PACWEST Championship game tomorrow at 4:30pm PST.  The Cascades are the defending PACWEST silver medalist, this will be their second straight appearance in the PACWEST Gold Medal match.  The set scores tonight were 25-16, 22-25, 25-22 and 25-15.

The Cascades defeated CBC all four times they played this regular season by a set scores of 12-3.  This will be the first time the two Abbotsford rivals will play each other on a neutral site for the conference championship.  With three seniors Brittany Stewart, Langley, BC, Kayla Bruce, Surrey, BC and Kate Bilodeau, Grand Prairie, BC know this is their last opportunity to win a PACWEST conference title before they graduate.  Both teams are guaranteed trips to the CCAA national championship tournament as two PACWEST teams receive invitations.  UFV goes into the championship game sporting a 23-2 overall record (22-2 regular season and 1-0 playoffs).
