Abbotsford, BC…Kayla Bruce, the fifth year women’s volleyball middle from Surrey, BC is one of three finalists for the BC Sport College Athlete of the Year.  Bruce led UFV to the 2011-12 PACWEST volleyball silver medal and CCAA national bronze medal, while being named PACWEST women’s volleyball player of the year and overall PACWEST Female Athlete of the Year.  Bruce also earned CCAA All-Tournament all-star status at the three-day national championship in Nanaimo, BC.  The 2012-13 Cascades women’s volleyball team is currently 11-1 and in first place in PACWEST conference.  UFV is ranked number one in the current CCAA top ten poll, a position they have held for three weeks.

“Coming into the 2011-12 year Kayla had set high expectations for herself. Every player hopes to have as productive season as one like Kayla’s and it came from a lot of hard work. Kayla has bought into our system fully and has evolved into one of our leaders. She carries a lot of pride on our team’s success and embraces the moment each time we go out to perform. For her this is a great honor to be nominated for BC Sport Athlete of the Year and I am very happy for her,” said UFV head coach Dennis Bokenfohr.
