UFV Cascades Volleyball: Women and Men defeat Capilano U, 3-1, at EAC

Abbotsford, BC…The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades women’s volleyball team won their 15th PACWEST regular season game of the 2012-13 campaign, defeating Capilano University Blues, 3-1, at the Envision Athletic Centre.  The Blues record falls to 5-13, good for a tie for fifth place with Douglas College.  The Cascades, ranked number one in the CCAA top ten poll,  remain one game ahead of VIU Mariners, 14-2, after their 3-0 victory over COTR Avalanche tonight.  The set scores tonight were 25-20, 20-25, 25-23 and 25-13. 

“A great weekend topped of tonight with a 3-1 win over the Capilano Blues. Out of the gate we played well again. Jumping out to an early 1-0 set lead ,but Capilano, to their credit, played very good defense in the 2nd and 3rd sets, said UFV head coach Dennis Bokenfohr.

The Cascades Kate Bilodeau, Grand Prairie, BC  was the team’s top performer this weekend.  “I was very impressed with her complete game. She really stepped up with solid passing and transitioned into aggressive offense. Kayla Bruce, Surrey, BC led the charge for us again tonight. Furthering her dominance on this league, commented Bokenfohr 

The UFV Cascades men’s volleyball team defeated Capilano U Blues, 3-1, tonight at the Envision Athletic Centre.  The Cascades record now stands at 2-14, they are now tied with the CBC Bearcats’ (2-14) for the final playoff spot, as they lost 3-0 to Douglas College tonight.  Capilano remains in second place with a record of 11-7 in the PACWEST conference.  The set scores tonight were 25-20, 19-25, 25-22 and 25-19.   

 

The Cascades were led by Josh Togeretz, Yarrow, BC with 17 kills, Chris Schmicke, Abbotsford, BC contributed with 12 kills and Adam Chaplin, Mission, BC distributed the ball very well, running a well balanced offense.  “It was great to get back in the win column.  The boys competed hard and we had great contributions from a number of players,” said UFV head coach Greg Russell.
