Cascades split weekend games in Victoria, BC

The UFV Cascades women’s volleyball team split their two BCCAA regular season matches in the provincial capital falling to VIU Mariners, on Friday, 3-1, and defeating Camosun University Chargers, on Saturday, 3-2, to improve their regular season record to 4-5 and sit in fourth place in the BCCAA standings.

On Friday, the Mariners defeated UFV, by scores of 14-25, 19-25, 25-22, 25-15. “Tonight was a tough match. We knew we would have to play a close to flawless game to take down VIU. Credit given to VIU where there attack broke us down,” said UFV Head Coach Dennis Bokenfohr.
Kari Roos, a second year veteran from Chillwack, BC  led the Cascades with 6 kills, 10 digs and 4 blocks.
On Saturday, UFV won its fourth game of the season by scores of 28-30, 25-13, 25-12, 23-25 and 15-10.  “This afternoon we started slow and appeared a bit sluggish. It was a good game where we battled for every set and eventually the hard work paid off. It was a good way to finish a tough road trip where we had a very solid team effort,” said Bokenfohr.
Kayla Bruce, a third year veteran from Surrey, BC  recorded 16 kills, 3 blocks and 4 aces in the victory over Camosun.  Jill Saunders, a three year veteran from Sechelt, BC added 11 digs and 11 kills in the Saturday match.
