New Westminster, BC…The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades women’s volleyball team defeated the Douglas College Royals, 3-1, in New Westminster tonight to improve their PACWEST conference leading record to 13-1. The Cascades, nationally ranked number one in the CCAA top ten poll stay one game ahead of the defending champions VIU Mariners, currently 12-2 and ranked third in the CCAA, The set scores tonight were 29-31 25-21 25-23 26-24.
The Royals again gave UFV a very competitive match. The Cascades first set loss was the longest set in UFV regular season history as they fell by two points, 31-29. While UFV would go onto sweep the next three sets this was one of closest matches the Cascades have had over the past two years.
“A solid win for us tonight. On back to back nights it has proved more difficult to get the second win once again. Fortunately between Jenna’s (Evans) complete game and Krista’s (Hogewoning) exceptional attack, we were able to get the result,” said head coach Dennis Bokenfohr.
“Interesting match as we controlled the first set only to watch it slip away. The next three sets we found ourselves always in the chase. It is not how you start, but how you finish. It was a weekend where we wanted the result on the road.”
