UFV Cascades first annual Breakfast Fundraiser a success

Abbotsford, BC…The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades first annual fundraising breakfast was a success as over 150 people were captivated by the Canadian Soccer Association’s women’s head coach John Herdman speak about motivation and leadership and the vision he created for the women’s soccer program.

“If you look at what our national women’s soccer team has been able to accomplish since John took over is really inspirational,” commented UFV athletic director Rocky Olfert.   “There are a lot of practical principles that we can use every day in our leadership, and it’s these principles that will make us better leaders and better people.  It’s this kind of mindset that we need to embrace to impact the lives of others.”

The breakfast raised just over $9,000.00 as folks from around the community paid $75 per plate or $500 for a table of eight.

“I am very grateful for the support our school receives from the community. The Adopt-A-Cascade program has given me the chance to focus on my studies and basketball, and I’m very thankful for that,” said UFV Cascades fifth year guard Kyle Grewal, who was named to the CIS “Final 8” All-Tournament team last March in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

“I am pleased to see the local community support the athletic department this morning.  It is always good to give back to the community you live in. I would like to thank Colin Miller (UFV Cascades assistant men’s soccer coach) for inviting me to the fundraiser,” said the bronze medal winning national coach on speaking at the Cascades fundraiser in Abbotsford.

The Cascades intend to make the breakfast an annual fundraiser as the department of athletics continues to grow, the goal is to see the breakfast grow with other excellent speakers and guests like Herdman.  Anyone interested in donating to the UFV Cascades Adopt-A-Cascade fund please see the attachment above and fill out the form and return Rocky Olfert, Athletic Director  at 604-855-5936 (fax).
