Mark Village named to the 2012 Canada West All-Star team

Abbotsford, BC…The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades Mark Village has been named to the 2012 Canada West men’s soccer second all-star team, at the goalkeeper position.  The third year General Studies major, from Abbotsford, BC, played in 13 of the 14 Cascades regular season games, guiding UFV to their most successful Canada West record 5-5-4 for 19 team points.  Village made 57 saves in the 13 games posting his best goals against average at 1.25.  Village also broke the Cascades single season mark for shutouts with 4.

 

Mark was named the “player of the match” twice during the season and backstopped UFV to its first ever weekend sweep since joining Canada West as UFV defeated UNBC in both games in Prince George, BC the weekend of October 12th

“I am absolutely delighted for Mark Village and his selection to the second all-star team. Mark really deserves this and has been terrific for us in goal this year. He is also a leader in the team, both on and off the field,” commented UFV head coach Alan Errington. “Congratulations on behalf of the whole UFV Team.”

 

Village becomes the fourth UFV Cascade to be named to the Canada West second all-star team, Jordan Langelaar, defender in 2008, midfielder Robbie Fadden and defender James Giebelhaus, in 2009 were also selected by opposing coaches to the Canada West all-star squads.  UFV’s first team all-star selections were Spencer Schmidt, a forward and midfielder Mike Riehl, in 2007.
