UFV Cascades fall to Montana State-Northern, 71-63, in Kamloops, BC
The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades were defeated by Montana State-Northern Lights (NCAA), 71-63, on day one, at the TRU Wolfpack men’s basketball tournament, in Kamloops, BC. The Cascades play York University Lions (OUA-East) on Saturday, at 2PM.
James York scored 10 points tonight at TRU
The game started out as a defensive struggle as both teams could not find their range early. The Cascades led by two points, 6-4, after the first quarter of play. UFV would score 18 points in the second quarter shooting 36 percent in the first half. The Cascades would go into the break leading by one point, 24-23. Jordan Blackman, Abbotsford, BC would lead the Cascades at the half with 10 points.
The second half started with MSU-Northern going a mini run to take the lead which they would hold onto the majority of the second half. UFV trailed by two points going into the final quarter, where MSU-Northern would outscore the Cascades by six to win game one of the TRU tournament. UFV shot 46 percent in the second half to finish at a 43 percent clip for the game.
Veteran captain Kyle Grewal, Surrey, BC led all Cascades with 17 points and 16 total rebounds. Blackman finished with 13 points and James York, Kirkland, Washington and Kevon Parchment, Toronto, Ontario each added 10 points in the loss.
The Cascades were out rebounded by MSU-Northern 46 to 41 for the game.
“We played well on defense tonight, just did not get the shots we needed down the stretch to earn the victory,” commented rookie head coach Adam Friesen.
