UFV Cascades men’s soccer team defeat UNBC Timberwolves, 3-0, in Prince George, BC

Prince George, BC…The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades men’s soccer team defeated the UNBC Timberwolves, 3-0, on Saturday, in Prince George, BC to improve their Canada West conference record to 2-3-4 for 10 points and move closer towards a post season berth in the very competitive Pacific Division of Canada West.  This marks the first Canada West conference regular season match between the two schools.  The Cascades will face the Timberwolves again tomorrow, in Prince George, BC at 12PM (noon).

The Cascades played a perfect defensive game this afternoon holding the Timberwolves in check to record their second shutout of the campaign, the first was against Calgary, 3-0, on September 23rd.  UFV was led by third year goalkeeper Mark Village, Abbotsford, BC who made 5 saves in posting his second shutout of the regular season.  The first half was fustrating for UFV’s offense as they had several great opportunities to open the scoring but could not solve the UNBC defense.  The match was a scoreless tie at the break.

The second half belonged to UFV as they started to pressure UNBC and keep the ball in the Timberwolves defensive half of the pitch.  James Najman, a first year forward from Coquitlam, BC opened the scoring at the 56 minute when he scored his second goal of the season.  The Cascades would add two more goals by Koby Byrne, Abbotsford, BC his second of the year and Dalibor Plavsic, Coquitlam, BC tallying his third of the campaign.  Najman, who was named the Cascades “player of the match” along with Nick Cantelon, Langley, BC and Cole Almond, Maple Ridge, BC just returned from the Canadian Soccer Association’s Club Championships, in the Maritimes, where they helped the BC team earn a bronze medal with a tournament record of 3-0-2.

“We earned the three points on the road today.  The guys played well in the second half to secure the victory,” commented UFV head coach Alan Errington.  “I look forward to tomorrow’s match and earning six points on this trip.”
