UFV Cascades defeat CBC Bearcats, 3-1, in home opener at Envision Athletic Centre

Abbotsford, BC…The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades women’s volleyball team opened the 2012-13 regular season campaign with a 3-1 victory over their cross town rivals CBCBearcats.  The Cascades defending PACWEST silver medalists and CCAA bronze medalists look to return to the conference finals in 2013 started off slowly tonight as the Bearcats won the first set of the brand new year.  

UFV regrouped between the first two sets to go on to win the next two sets by three points each, before clinching the opening night victory in the fourth set.  The scores of the sets were 19-25, 25-22, 25-22 and 25-16. The Cascades play game two of the season on Saturday at CBC, game time set for 6PM.

 

Jenna Evans, a fourth year left side from Abbotsford, BC was the Cascades player of the match with 15 kills. “Jenna was a very effective attacker and consistently put CBC in trouble,” commented UFVhead coach Dennis Bokenfohr. 

 

Coach Bokenfohrwas pleased with the team’s effort tonight.  “It was a good start to our season, the team’s nerves settled down early in the second set. We were happy with the result and hope to build upon in it tomorrow. We expect it to be tougher at the always hostile CBCbarn.”
