Cascades defeat TRU Wolfpack to win 3rd annual Coquihalla Cup

The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades men’s golf team defeated Thompson Rivers Wolfpack, 9-3, in Ryder Cup style play, to win the third annual Coquihalla Cup title, this past weekwend, at the Dunes, in Kamloops, BC.

The Cascades were led by veteran Mitch Lock, Mission, BC who was named the the cup’s most valuable player going undefeated and winning the pre tournament skills competition.  The Cascades 2011 Male Athlete of the Year is in mid season form as UFV prepares to start the 2012 PACWEST regular season this coming weekend.

The Cascades defending silver medalists look to win their fourth provincial title in the past seven years. UFV has been the model of consistency medalling at the conference level for seven straight years.

“This is a great event, and the folks at the Dunes all do a tremendous job hosting. It was nice to start the season off with a victory and good to see our players in good form as we head into PACWest competition this weekend,” commented UFV head coach Chris Bertram.

Aaron Pauls, Chilliwack, BC, named CCAA All-Canadian last year and Lock give Coach Bertram the best one two punch in the PACWEST and when you add the three recruits Taylor Callens, Connor O’Dell and Harrison Clegg to the mix, the Cascades look to go back on top of the PACWEST standings by season’s end.

The Cascades opponents in the PACWEST are Camosun, Kwantlen, TRU, UBC-O, VIU and Douglas. The Cascades host the fourth PACWEST Tournament the weekend of October 6-7, at the Chilliwack Golf & Country Club.
