UFV Cascades win their 10th of the campaign over Brandon, 65-30

The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades women’s basketball team defeated the Brandon University Bobcats, 65-30, to win their 10th regular season game of the 2011-12 campaign. The game was played in Brandon, Manitoba. The Cascades now 10-4, sit in second place in the West Division of Canada West Conference. The Cascades are currently ranked 10th in the CIS top ten poll. The Bobcats fall to 0-14 in the East Division of Canada West.

The story of tonight’s game was the strong defensive play of UFV, holding Brandon to single digit points in in all four quarters including an opponents season low four points in the second quarter.

UFV jumped out to an early lead and led by 11 points after the first quarter, and the lead kept growing as the Cascades scored 25 points in the final stanza to earn the 35 point victory.

Courtney Bartel, Chilliwack, BC and Celeste Dyck, Abbotsford, BC led UFV in scoring with 15 points each. Kayli Sartori, Chilliwack, BC led the Cascades with 10 total rebounds.

Aimee Johnston led Brandon with 8 points and 12 rebounds. Brandon out rebounded UFV 52 to 40 for the game.

The Cascades will host TWU Spartans, next Saturday, January 28th, at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre, tip off is 5PM for the game.
