The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades men’s and women’s basketball teams are getting ready to host their arch rivals the Trinity Western University Spartans, at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre (AESC). Both Cascades teams come into the Saturday night contests ranked 10th in the CIS top ten national rankings.
The UFV Cascades women’s team is sporting a 10-4 record good for second place in the West Division of Canada West. The Cascades who have been nationally ranked six weeks during the 2011-12 basketball campaign look to make history on Saturday night, as their magic number is one to clinch the first home post season game in UFV’s six year association with Canada West. The Cascades have already clinched a post season berth and have qualified for the Canada West playoffs four of the six years they have participated in the conference.
The women’s team is also unbeaten at home in eight straight Canada West regular season games, dating back to last February. The longest unbeaten home streak in the team’s Canada West history.
The UFV Cascades men’s team is currently sitting in third place in the West Division of Canada West sporting a 9-5 record and one game ahead of TWU Spartans, sitting in fourth place with a 8-6 record.
The Cascades play three of their final four games at home, including this Saturday’s game. UFV has been nationally ranked the entire school year and look to keep the top ten ranking heading into these very important final four games which will determine placing in the West Division and any post season opportunities home or on the road.
