Cougars remain undefeated as they defeat UFV Cascades, 78-61, in Regina

The UFV Cascades traveled to Regina to face the CIS number one ranked Cougars and fell 78-61 in Regina. The Cascades Canada West west division record now stands at 9-4, good for second place a half game behind UBC sporting a 9-3 record.

The battle of the two nationally ranked teams (UFV is 10th in the CIS top ten poll) lived up to its billing as the Cascades came out strong and hung with the undefeated Cougars for three quarters. The Cascades were tied after the first quarter and then in the third rebounded from a eight point halftime deficit to trail by one point going into the final quarter. In that fourth quarter the more experienced homeside out scored UFV by 16 points to earn their 12 victory of the campaign. Regina leads the Canada West east division.

The Cascades were led by Nicole Wierks, Chilliwack, BC and Kayli Sartori, Chilliwack, BC with 14 points each. Sarah Wierks, Chilliwack, BC pulled down 11 boards to lead all UFV players. The Cougars out rebounded UFV 54 to 43 for the game.

Michelle Clark lead all Regina players with a game high 22 points. Joanna Zalesiak led Regina with 10 total rebounds.

The Cascades face Brandon University Bobcats on Saturday before coming home to play TWU Spartans, at the Abbotsford Entertainment Sports Centre on Saturday, January 28th.
