Abbotsford Heat/UFV Cascades Athletes of the Week, week ending November 27, 2011

Jason Boroevich, men’s volleyball and Kierra Noot, women’s volleyball are the Abbotsford Heat/UFV Cascades athletes of the week, for the week ending Sunday, November 27th.

Boroevich helped the UFV Cascades men’s volleyball team defeat the Camosun Chargers, 3-2, on Friday night at the Envision Athletic Centre. The Burnaby, BC native recorded 12 points on offense (7 kills, 3 blocks and 2 aces) in the victory. The first year Burnaby Central graduate recorded 13 points on Saturday, in the Camosun, 3-1 victory over UFV, on 9 kills and 4 blocks.

“Jason was definitely our most consistent player this weekend. He led by example on the court recording 25 offensive points,” said UFV Head Coach Greg Russell.

Noot was instrumental in helping the CCAA number 4th rankled Cascades sweep the Camosun Chargers this past weekend, at Envision Athletic Centre by scores of 3-0 both nights. The Surrey, BC native recorded 9 blocks through 5 ½ sets of play. More impressive than her blocking may be her improved serving skills. She served 100% of them into play. Noot also got an ace on the Saturday night to go along with her 7 kills through 2 ½ sets.

“Kierra’s accomplishments on the court are definitely in the shadow of her studies. She is in her first year of the very demanding nursing studies. Her work ethic is very apparent when she is balancing waking up for 5:30 work at the hospital and 8:00 pm practices,” said UFV Head Coach Dennis Bokenfohr. “She is the definition of a “student athlete” and the type of player any coach would be lucky to have a part of their program.”
