Cascades sweep COTR, improve PACWest record to 10-2
The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades sweep the College of the Rockies Avalanche, over the weekend, winning both matches by scores of 3-1, to improve their PACWest leading record to 10-2. The Cascades now will face third place Camosun College Chargers, at the EAC, in their final two home ganmes before the exams break.
Friday, November 18 Cascades: 3-1 (25-17,14-25, 25-21, 25-16)
Saturday, November 19 Cascades: 3-1 (25-9, 25-17, 21-25, 25-12)
“This was our second road weekend of the year, and travelling to Cranbrook is like no other road trip we have. We knew the long travel could effect our play and it was going to be a bit of a battle to get the wins,” said UFV Head Coach Dennis Bokenfohr.
“Friday night, College of the Rockies was well prepared and had a large crowd out to support their team, as at times we were battling the crowd as well as the Avalanche. We ended up taking the win 3-1 and were looking forward to the challenge of bettering our performance Saturday afternoon.” “Coming into the afternoon match the ladies were really focused on tidying up our block. This resulted in 13 stuff blocks and much more soft blocks. It was a game we controlled from start to finish and a much stronger performance overall.”
Standouts for the weekend were, Kayla Bruce: 11 blocks, 7 aces and 16 kills and a 41% hitting and Brittany Stewart 37 digs and passed a 2.3 average on the weekend.
