Cascades defeat Winnipeg Wesmen, 89-69, at Envision Athletic Centre

The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades defeated the University of Winnipeg Wesmen, 89-69, to improve their Canada West regular season conference record to 3-1. The Cascades will host UBC-O Heat next weekend at the Envision Athletic Centre.

The Cascades picked up where they left off against Manitoba on Friday quickly establishing a lead and building on that lead all night. The Cascades led by six points after the first quarter and 12 points at the break. In the second half, UFV continued to work hard on the defensive side of the ball holding Winnipeg to 13 fourth quarter points they defeat Winnipeg by 20 points to improve to 3-1.

UFV was led by Michael James, Winnipeg, Manitoba with 18n points as six different Cascades scored in double figures. Jasper Moedt, Abbotsford, BC and added 17 points and 5 rebounds and Joel Friesen, Abbotsford, BC 12 points and a team leading 8 rebounds.

Winnipeg was paced by Travis Krahn, Winkler, Manitoba with a team high 17 points. Benny Iko, Laurel, Maryland added 13 points and 13 rebounds in the loss to UFV.

“It was nice to recover from last weekend’s poor Saturday second half with two good wins this weekend. I like what Coach Raimbault is doing with the Wesman, they play together and are a tough physical team, we had to perform well to earn a victory this evening,” said UFV Head Coach Barnaby Craddock.
“I was happy with our defense, although they outworked us on the offensive glass for a few too many rebounds. The inside scoring from Mike and Jasper was definitely a big part of what helped on the offensive end, and the guards did a good job of finding them in the right spots.

UW 16 19 21 13 = 69 (1-3)

UFV 22 25 18 24 = 89 (3-1)

Team Rebounds: UW: 13+21=34/UFV: 12+27=39
