Cascades defeat Winnipeg Wesmen, 75-51, square Canada West record at 2-2

The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades defeated the University of Winnipeg Wesmen, 75-51, to improve their Canada West regular season conference record at 2-2. The Cascades will host UBC-O Heat next weekend at the Envision Athletic Centre.

The Cascades started out strong and quickly established the lead while the defense went right back to work holding the Wesmen to seven first quarter points. In the second quarter, Winnipeg came to life and tied the game at the half at 25 each. The third quarter belonged to UFV as they outscored Winnipeg by 19 points and went onto defeat the Wesmen by 24 points to even their record at two wins and two losses.

The Cascades were led by Nicole Wierks, Chilliwack, BC with a team high 17 points. Kayli Sartori Chilliwack, BC and Aieisha Luyken Mission, BC each added 13 points and Tessa Klassen, Winnipeg, Manitoba rounded out the Cascades in double figures with 12 points. Sarah Wierks, Chilliwack, BC led all Cascades with 12 rebounds and Sartori pulled down 10 boards in her second CIS home game. The Wesmen’s top scorers were Tia Coulter, Brandon, Manitoba and Amy Ogidan, Winnipeg, Manitoba with 9 points each. Danielle Baril, Winnipeg, Manitoba pulled down 7 rebounds for Winnipeg.

UW 7 18 11 15 = 51 (2-2)

UFV 13 12 30 20 = 75 (2-2)

Team Rebounds: UW 12+21=33/UFV: 23+21=44
