Basketball’s Jasper Moedt and Tessa Klassen are the Abbotsford Heat/UFV Cascades Athletes of the Week, week ending November 20, 2011.

Moedt, a third year Criminal Justice major, from Abbotsford, BC led the Cascades men’s basketball team in scoring on the weekend with 42 points, as UFV defeated UBC Okanagan Heat, 74-52 and 108-63. The Cascades are now 5-1 and currently ranked 9th in the CIS Top Ten poll. In addition to Jasper’s 42 points, the Cascade forward recorded 17 total rebounds, 5 steals and one blocked shot against the Heat.

Klassen, a fifth year guard from Winnipeg, Manitoba, helped the UFV Cascades women’s basketball team sweep the two game home series with the UBC Okanagan Heat, defeating their new conference opponent 81-53 on Friday and 71-50, on Saturday. The Arts major scored 30 points on the weekend, including a game high 19 points in the Saturday night victory. Tessa pulled down 7 total rebounds, recorded 7 assists and 5 steals on the weekend. The Cascades are now 4-2 in conference play.
