Honda Way/UFV Cascades Men’s Basketball Tournament:
Game One: Northwest University Eagles defeat Thompson Rivers Wolfpack, 93-65
The Honda Way tournament started off with a close first quarter as Northwest University Eagles (Kirkland, Washington-NAIA) and Thompson Rivers Wolfpack (Kamloops, BC-Canada West) were deadlocked at 18 each. In the second quarter, the Eagles pulled away with several ten point runs to open a double digit lead and go into the locker room up by 14 points, at 39-25.
In the second half, the Eagles continued their dominance especially on the boards as they built up a 30 point lead before TRU was able to cut in back to 22 points going into the fourth quarter. The Eagles would outscore TRU by 6 points in the final quarter to win game one of the Honda Way tournament by 28 points.
The Eagles were led by Ahmaad Cook, Los Angeles, California with a team high 20 points and 3 assists. Jordon Call, Kirkland, Washington added 17 points, 6 assists, and 4 total rebounds to be named the Eagle’s Player of the Game. Michael Greene, Bellingham, Washington and Nemanja Grujicic, Ratkovo, Serbia each scored 15 points for Northwest. Jason Waltman, Monroe, Washington led the Eagles with 7 total rebounds as Northwest out rebounded TRU by 39 to 30.
The Wolfpack were paced by Justin King, Las Vegas, Nevada with a game high 24 point performance. King also pulled down 5 rebounds as he was the Wolfpack Player of the Game. Chas Kok, Lynden, Washington added 15 points and led the Wolfpack with 7 total rebounds.
