Cascades streak to three with 2-0 home victory over Lethbridge Pronghorns, at Bateman Park

The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades women’s soccer team defeated the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns, 2-0, at Bateman Park to improve their Canada West record to 3-2-2 for 11 points and are now unbeaten in three straight conference matches. The Cascades host the University of Calgary Dinos tomorrow, at Bateman Park, game time 12PM.

The Cascades played a strong match today holding Lethbridge to no official shots on goal as veteran goalkeeper Chantelle Biagioni, Pitt Meadows, BC earned her first shutout of the 2011 regular season. The Cascades controlled the majority of play in the midfield and the UFV defenders kept the Pronghorns forwards from any quality chances the entire match.

The Cascades scored once in each half, as Chelsea Steffen, Abbotsford, BC scored her first goal of the season at the 31st minute off a great pass from Ellen Kuyer, Surrey, BC. The Cascades second goal scored in the 88th minute by captain Megan Webster, Abbotsford, BC her third of the campaign, on her second penalty kick of the season.

“Delighted with the result. I was proud of the maturity we showed by persevering and finishing off the game. Had we been more clinical in and around their penalty area we could’ve won more comfortably. The effort and determination we showed today was pleasing,” said Head Coach Rob Giesbrecht.
