Calgary defeats UFV, 1-0, at Bateman Park

The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades fell to the University of Calgary Dinos, 1-0, at Bateman Park. The Cascades Canada West regular season record falls to 3-3-2 for 11 points. The Cascades played a strong game today controlling a good portion of the midfield and attacking the Calgary defence. The match started off well for UFV and within the first ten minutes the Cascades had five straight corner kicks and had pinned Calgary deep in their zone. The Dinos defence played well keeping UFV off the scoreboard. Calgary’s goalkeeper Tara Ellis, Edmonton, AB made several great saves to keep Calgary in the game early.

The Dinos would marched down the pitch and score the game’s lone goal at the 27th minute by Victoria Moretti, Calgary, AB. The goal would stand up as Calgary would defeat UFV to improve their record to 4-2-2 for 14 points. The Cascades offence kept shooting on Ellis but she made 12 saves to record the shutout.

“Naturally, its disappointing to lose at home in such an important game. I thought there were some very positive aspects of our performance today; creating 12 shots on goal and holding our opponent to just 3 shots on goal is very positive. However, I felt we lacked the next level of assertiveness to create higher quality scoring opportunities. The work-rate and desire were very good today,” said Rob Giesbrecht Head Coach.
