UFV Cascades Women’s Soccer near prefect in preseason!

The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades women’s soccer team hit home soil this past weekend defeating UBC-O Heat, 5-3 and TRU Wolfpack, 6-2 on Saturday to finish the 2011 preseason exhibition schedule with a near perfect 5-0-2 record against CIS caliber opponents.

The Cascades open defense of their Canada West title, next Saturday, September 10th when they visit Winnipeg to play the University of Manitoba Bisons. UFV home opener is set for Saturday, September 17th against the University of Saskatchewan Huskies, 12:00pm at Bateman Park, in Abbotsford.

In the UBC-O match, Ellen Kuyer, Surrey, BC scored twice while Danika Snook, Chilliwack, B, Victoria Baird, Surrey, BC and  Dani Ruschke, Chilliwack, BC each scored once.  Coach Rob Giesbrecht split the goalkeeping duties between Chantelle Biagioni, Pitt Meadows, BC and Danica Ferris, Chilliwack, BC.

“Although we started well in the opening stages of the game, we allowed ourselves to lower our level of play for long stages of the first half.  In the second half we were played more at the level we expect and scored some nice goals.  We were able to get everyone into the game and also able to rest a few players that are carrying knocks in order to hopefully have them healthy and ready to go for our Canada West regular season.  It was good to see Victoria Baird and Dani Ruschke scored their first goals in university soccer,” said Coach Giesbrecht.

In the TRU match goals were scored by Paige Friesen, Abbotsford, BC Shelby Beck, Victoria Baird, Dani Ruschke, Darrian Kloot, Chilliwack, BC and Danielle Schmidt, Abbotsford, BC.
