The University of Alberta Golden Bears defeated the UFV Cascades, 2-1, at Bateman Park. The Cascades Canada West regular season record falls to 1-3.
The Cascades came out strong and played a very competitive match with their Edmonton opponents. After Saturday’s loss to Saskatchewan, UFV played well and kept Alberta off the score board while challenging for the match’s first goal. The Cascades broke through at the 25 minute mark as Sasa Plavsic, Coquitlam, BC opened the scoring giving UFV the one goal lead. The Golden Bears responded ten minutes later and the match was tied at the half.
The Cascades continued to pressure Alberta in the second half, however it would be the Golden Bears who would score the winning goal midway through the second half handed the home team its this straight league loss.
“A disappointing weekend for us. We were slow starters on Sat and paid the price for it. A better showing in the second half. I felt that we had enough chances to win the game against Alberta but there GK had an excellent game and made some great saves. We played quite well today and still got no points. We must move forward and find ways to win,” said Alan Errington.
