The University of Mississippi Rebels (SEC-NCAA) defeated the UFV Cascades (Canada West-CIS), 85-69, in preseason exhibition women’s basketball game at Envision Athletic Centre. The Cascades preseason record stands at 0-1. They play the University of Louisville Cardinals (Big East-NCAA), August 14th, at 7:00PM.
The Rebels jumped out to an early lead but the Cascades stayed with their NCAA opponents holding the Rebels to 20 first quarter points and trailed by only four points after the first quarter. In the second UFV held Old Miss to 17 points and went into the intermission down by only 4 points, 37-33. Aieisha Luyken, Mission, BC led all Cascades with 6 points at halftime. Tessa Klassen, Winnipeg, Manitoba led all Cascades with 4 total rebounds at the break.
In the second half, the Rebels outscored UFV by 12 points to earn the 16 point victory, 85-69.
Klassen led all Cascades with a team high 17 point performance, 6 total rebounds and 4 assists. Courtney Bartel, Chilliwack, BC added 13 points and Luyken 10 points in the loss to Mississippi. Klassen and Sarah Wierks, Chilliwack, BC led the Cascades with 6 total rebounds. The Rebels top scorer was Whitney Harneth, Dumas, Arkansas with a game high 21 points.
