Zeon Gray, Men’s Basketball and Sarah Wierks, Women’s Basketball are UFV Cascades/Abbotsford Heat Athletes of the Week

Wierks led the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades women’s basketball team to the programs first ever Canada West post season series victory over the University of Winnipeg Wesmen,  winning 77-63, on Friday and 77-64, on Saturday.  The series sweep earned the Cascades a trip to the Canada West “Final Four” in Saskatoon, SK this coming Weekend.  The first year Chilliwack, BC native  pulled down 29 total  rebounds, scored 28 points and recorded  4 assists while playing  68 minutes in the two games against Winnipeg.

Gray helped the Cascades defeat Trinity Western University, 81-80, in Game One of the Canada West best of 3 quarterfinal.  While UFV would eventually fall to TWU two games to one, the Los Angeles, CA native had a very productive series.  The fourth year veteran would pull down 19 total rebounds, record 10 assists, score 54 points, while playing  105 minutes in the three game series.
