The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades Joel Friesen has been named to Canada West’s second all-star team. The second year guard majoring in Kinesiology was the Cascades lone representative on the Canada West all-star team. The Abbotsford, BC native helped UFV earned a Canada West post season berth as UFV finished in seventh place with a 10-14 record and earned a playoff victory against Trinity Western University, before falling 2 games to 1 in the Canada West best of 3 quarterfinal.
Friesen led UFV in scoring with 465 points, averaging 17.2 per game, while playing an average close to 32 minutes per night. The Yale Secondary (Abbotsford, BC) graduate also pulled down 135 total boards, third highest on the Cascade team this year. In the three game Canada West quarterfinal with TWU, Friesen led the Cascades in scoring with 67 points, for an averaging of 22.3 points per game.
“It’s a nice recognition for Joel, and well deserved. He is our best defender, a clutch shooter and had some unbelievable athletic plays this year. I’m excited to see how he moves forward throughout his next three seasons,” said UFV Head Coach Barnaby Craddock.
