The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades men’s basketball team defeated the University of Winnipeg Wesmen, 75-68, to improve their Canada West regular season record to 7-13, and currently sit in 9th Place in the standings with four games remaining. With tonight’s victory UFV splits the two game regular season series with Winnipeg at one win each.
The University of Winnipeg held a 15-14 lead after the opening quarter. UFV outscored the Wesmen 12-6 in the second quarter to take a 26-21 lead into the locker room at halftime. The third quarter belonged to the University of Winnipeg as they outscored the Cascades 26-18 to go into the final quarter up by 3 points.
In the fourth quarter UFV came alive scoring 31 points and holding off a late Winnipeg rally to earn their 7th victory of the season. Zeon Gray, Los Angeles, CA scored the final 5 Cascade points down the stretch to seal the victory.
“Friesen played very well this weekend leading us to victory tonight with a team high 23 point performance, 4 assists and 4 rebounds,” said UFV Head Coach Barnaby Craddock.
Joel Friesen, Abbotsford, BC led the Cascades with a team high 23 points. Gray added 18 and Sam Freeman, Coquitlam, BC finished with 14 points. James Elliott, Perth, Western Australia led the team with six total rebounds, as UFV pulled down 30 boards for the game.
