The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades men’s basketball team defeated the Brandon University Bobcats, 102-67, to clinch a Canada West post season playoff berth. The Cascades finish the regular season at 10-14 good for 7th Place and a trip to Langley, BC to face their arch rivals Trinity Western University Spartans, in a best two out of three quarter final series. Times and dates will announced on Monday by the Canada West league office.
The Cascades led from start to finish tonight as they played great defence all night holding Brandon to a mere 25 first half points, while going into the intermission with a 25 point lead. The second half was more great team work by UFV as they would go onto score 100 points en route to clinching the 7th seed and a playoff berth.
The Cascades were led by Ryan Fahandeg, Kelowna, BC with a team high 20 point performance. Three other Cascades were in double figures tonight Nathan Kendall, Abbotsford, BC with 17 points, Sam Freeman, Coquitlam, BNC with 14 and Dean Kmyta, Kelowna, BC with 11. Fahandeg led all Cascades with 7 total rebounds as they pulled down 38 total boards for the game.
James Elliott, Perth, Western Australia playing in his final Cascade home game, at Envision Athletic Centre, scored 9 points, pulled down 6 total rebounds and recorded one steal in the victory over Brandon.
