The University of the Fraser Valley Cascades defeated the Brandon University Bobcats, 93-41, in women’s basketball to establish a new UFV Cascade record for point differential since they joined Canada West. The Cascades improved their regular season record to 11-12 with one game remaining tomorrow night against Brandon, at the Envision Athletic Centre.
The Cascades led from the opening whistle to the closing establishing a quick double digit lead and holding Brandon to 9 first quarter points. The Cascades led by 27 points at the half, holding Brandon to 19 first half points. He second half was even stronger for UFV as the Cascade defence shut Brandon down giving up only 22 second half points as they coasted to a school record since joining Canada West (CIS) five years ago. The margin of victory of victory was 52 points.
Alyssa Gaukel, Chilliwack, BC led the Cascades with a 21 point performance. Tessa Klassen, Winnipeg, Manitoba chipped in with 18 points, Sarah Wierks, Chilliwack, BC added 14 points and rounding out the Cascades in double figures was Aieisha Luyken, Mission, BC with 12-points. Sarah Wierks led all Cascades with 9 total rebounds as UFV pulled down 54 total boards for the game.
