Gaukel, Women’s Basketball and Fahandeg, Men’s Basketball UFV Cascades/Abbotsford Heat Athletes of the Week

Ryan Fahandeg, a third year Business major, from Kelowna, BC helped the UFV Cascades men’s basketball team clinch a Canada West post season berth over the weekend by sweeping Brandon University,  75-68, Friday, and 102-87, on Saturday.

Ryan scored 23 points, including a team high 20 points on Saturday, pulled down 7 total rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals over the weekend.  The veteran forward played 42 minutes in the sweep of Brandon.

Alyssa Gaukel,  playing in her final two career Cascade home games helped the Cascades finished the 2010-11 Canada West regular season with a five hundred record of 12-12, a ten win improvement over last year.  The fifth year senior  helped UFV defeat Brandon, 93-41, on Friday, to establish a new UFV point differential as they won by 52 points, and 87-49, on Saturday.  Gaukel played 60 minutes on the weekend, scoring 36 points, pulling down 8 total rebounds and recording 4 assists and 2 steals.
