The Abbotsford Heat (American Hockey League) will be recognizing the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades women’s soccer team, this Saturday, December 11th, at the Abbotsford Heat-Chicago Wolves hockey game. Head Coach Rob Giesbrecht and the 2010 Canada West Champions will be attendance Saturday night, at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre, as the Heat will recognize the team’s on field accomplishments of the fall, 2010.
The Cascades became the first UFV varsity team, competing in Canada West and the CIS, to earn a conference Gold medal, and a national Bronze medal in the 5 year association with both leagues. The Cascades finished the Canada West regular season with an 8-5-1 record and advanced to the CIS Championship tournament by defeating Trinity Western University, 3-2, on Penalty Kicks and UBC, 2-0 to capture the Canada West title.
In Charlottetown, PEI, the Cascades became the school’s first team to win a national tournament match, defeating Laval University, 2-0, in the CIS quarterfinal. UFV would capture the national Bronze medal by defeating the University of Montreal, 3-2, on Penalty Kicks.
