Biola University Eagles (NAIA) defeated the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades, 73-44, in exhibition men’s basketball, in La Mirada, California. The Cascades have one exhibition game remaining in California before returning to Abbotsford, BC. They face the Asuza Pacific University, in Azusa, California.
The Cascades started off hot as they built a 6 point lead early, and held onto the lead until midway through the first half, at 16-13. The Eagles came alive at that point and showed why they are ranked number one in “team defense” in the NAIA by holding UFV to 8 points the rest of the half, taking a 17 point lead into the intermission.
In the second half, Biola continued to pressure UFV and coupled with the Cascades shooting 29% from the floor, the Eagles defeated their Canadian visitors by 29 points.
Sam Freeman, Coquitlam, BC was the only Cascade in double figures as he led UFV with 11 points. James Elliott, Perth, West Australia and Zeon Gray, Los Angeles, Ca each chipped in with 8 points. Gray led UFV with 6 total rebounds as the Cascades pulled down 27 boards for the game.
“We had some very positive defensive possessions, but they are a solid team and wore us out throughout the game. Our goal on the trip is to get our legs back after the holiday break, and be ready for 12 big second semester games,” said UFV Head Coach Barnaby Craddock.
